API Inc. was incorporated in May of 1972 by Owners Charles Swenson & Joe Richards.  Mr. Swenson had been with 3M Co. for sixteen years in marketing & sales to the wood industry (furniture, plywood, hardwood, doors, windows, pre finishing etc.)  Mr. Richards had been with Sherwin Williams Co. in automotive paint sales.  Their goal was to service the wood industry with finishing equipment, production products and the automotive aftermarket with paint and related supplies.  Mr. Richards resigned in 1979 because of health related issues and Mr. Swenson became sole owner.

Now after 36 years the company works out of three warehouses, two in Eugene (40,000 sq. ft.) with 22 employees and one in Bend, Oregon.

Customers serviced on a monthly basis, total approximately 450 in a territory, which include Northern California, Western Idaho and Oregon with $14 million in annual sales. Nationally recognized accounts include Masterbrand Cabinets, Weyerhaeuser, Roseburg Lumber, Jeld-Wen, Clear Pine and Brightwood Corporation.  RV Manufactures include Monaco Coach Corporation, Country Coach, Inc. and Marathon Coach, Inc.

In addition the owners of API, Inc. also own, Altech Finishes , a powder coating facility located in Eugene, Oregon.  The 20,000 sq. ft. plant has a 5 stage washer, dry off oven, manual and automatic spray equipment in custom spray booths, over 600 ft. of conveyer through ovens for smaller pieces 4’ x 6’ and a 16’ x 48’ x 8’ batch oven for large pieces.

At the present time Chuck and Dave Swenson (sons) have assumed control of the company.  Dave having been with the company 32 years and Chuck for 26 years.
